Help Car audio enthusiast Need some HIGH power component speakers that can handle alot of power and sound good

Im at a lost.They just dont make them like they use to.This question is for someone who knows there stuff.I am 34 years old.I use to own my own car audio shop.My problem is Ive been out of the game awhile.Im looking for a component (seperates) system 6.5 inch and 5 1/4 inch that can handle more than 100watts rms.Looking for a competition sound/spl.Anyone have any suggestions.I have alpines right now type r....sound great,but I need louder.In the past I have won 2 competitions in my wattage division.So that gives you an idea what Im looking for.They just dont make them like they use to

Blah Blah Blah Infinity, blah blah blah. Any car audio enthusiast past or present should not consider Infinity's current line of products. The tweeters are cheap and screechy little monsters that are designed to jump out at you on a sound board and appear to be better, louder and more efficient when demonstrated to customers. Further, power handling is more than just a claim on the outside of a box. There is no technology or design charecteristic in use in any of their current car audio products that allows them to handle more than average power.

Oh, yeah, until you get to their ZR series components, JL has some sissy little ratings that this cat will not be impressed with. The ZRs are rated up to 125 watts RMS, but at $1000 a pair? For those? Are they serious?

Oversized edge wound voice coil of the Diamond Audio products, particularly the D971s are impressive. They are rated to handle 200 watts. Their more affordable D6 series uses standard sized stuff sadly. So unless your budget is huge and you have a sawzall to get these into your 5.25 and 6.5 holes, that info is probably totally meaningless.

The Pioneer TSC720PRS components may fit your needs in the 6.5. I am not sure off the top of my head what are their rating, but they have an oversized voice coil and a substantial size/structure to the speaker's basket lead me to believe that they will handle some juice.

Personally, on a budget, I have found that Polk Audio's Momo components are impressive. With their textured carbon fiber cones, they are capable of dissipating an enormous amount of cone surface distortion. There is a unique crossover layout that raises the x/o point under distortion to avoid blowing up tweeters at carelessly high output levels. For years (literally 8!) I have used Momo components in my personal vehicles always with 1.5-2 times the manufacturer's RMS rating with almost no failures and LOTS of overall volume capabilities with better than acceptable tonal accuracy/response

While we are speaking of Polks, It appears that their SR components are made in the same plant as the Pioneers I mention above. They also would appear to handle big power, but I do not have the experience with them to make such a recomendation as you are looking for. Dainty little neo magnet on the back looks a little girly for a flagship speaker, but hey, I like girls, why shouldn't the SRs? Oh, wait, I don't look girly...
