My Sony CD player is not playing CD okay, read below....?

I have a Sony mini hi-fi component system (model MHC-VX 101) its around 3 years old model, with 3 CD changers, twin audio cassette player. Lately, I started having problem while playing CD's, either the song track starts missing or repeating. I tried cleaning the lens once with tissue paper but the problem wont go. Although I have used this Sony player rarely, as I have an iPod.

I dont want to replace the lens, as its expensive & I am hesitant to invest money on an old player. Is there anyother way to eradicate this problem. Further, any suggestions how to clean the lens in a better way. Thanks for taking out time & replying to my question.

I own a similar sony mini hi-fi system (MHC-GR 70), and i had the very same problem. it wasn`t the lens. near the lens there is a "fine tuning" device. it resembles a little screw-head. you can turn it with a regular small screw-driver. turn it to the left or to the right (by very small steps) until your cd unit will start to behave normally. it shouldn`t take more than 5 minutes to find the right position for the device. I did it and never had any problems since. good luck
