My friend hooked up a $39 dvd player with black and red audio out to a Kenwood home theatre and no voices?

She cannot get the voice sounds out of the speakers. The dvd is only connected by red and black audio cables. I tried adjusting the individual speaker level but couldn't find the voices. Pirate Bali dvds sound fine

While the voices should be coming out of the center channel it sounds like the your wiring is off a little or the DVD player doesn't have the option for surround output.

Red/White - Audio

These cables are also just for stereo signals. That means only left/right channels. While a music dvd might sound good you are not listening to a center channel program.

The $39 DVD player needs to be 5.1 Dolby digital ready or DTS ready. It should have a surround channel output for a home theater sound. The audio needs to be in HDMI, component cables (red,blue,green) or digital optical.

What does the instruction manual say about hooking it up to a home theater system? I am afraid that the $39 price comes with a few short falls like not being surround sound ready.
